Super Mario 3D Land
Mario’s first Game on the 3D is really something to behold. The story has improved, like what would happen if the koopas got a hold of mario’s power-ups. The game is full 3D no 2D parts, but there is some 2D elements, such as the Small Mario to Mario with the super Mushroom; otherwise the health system in Mario 3. The game is a Mix of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Mario 3. There are many power ups in the game, such as the returning tanooki suit and the brand new boomerang flower. There are many challenges such as gold flagpoles, and Star Medals, that have the purpose of The Star Coins from New Super Mario Bros Wii and the Power Stars and Comet medals from Super Mario Galaxy 2. the game also uses the streetpass feature for mystery boxes that contain challenges with goodies, and toad houses that hold power-ups, the gyroscope, and the Mii Characters. There are a lot of levels. The timer clock also returns to add more of a 2D feel to the game. The 3D effects are great, the added depth Makes it easier to judge the distance of a gap you have to jump and make certain eye fooling areas easier, you can choose if you want them to pop out of the screen or just for added depth. You can even play as Luigi in a certain point in the game, he retains his advantages and disadvantages from Super Mario Galaxy 2. The only problem is the camera.
Final score 9/10
Sonic Generations (3DS)
Classic Sonic’s return signals that sonic is getting his act in gear, and he is. The whole game is in 2D with amazing 3D effects. Classic sonic’s game play is pure genesis, as well as the genesis stages are just how we left them as classic sonic. Modern Sonic’s gameplay uses a full 2D version of the sonic colors engine. There is a ton of collectibles, ranging from artwork to 3D mode and music. It utilizes the wi-fi features, play coins and streetpass features. The cutsceens could use work, but I thought it was pretty cool when sonic taught his past self the homing attack. The voice actors are the same from sonic colors, classic tails’s voice actor I don’t know, but classic sonic remains silent, sega said he was a silent picture and if anyone was to be the voice of classic sonic it would be his voice actor. The only problem are some of the bosses, im still stuck on the time eater.
